An ophthalmologist is a certified medical doctor specializing in diagnosing and treating ailments of the eye and correcting vision. As opposed to optometrists or opticians, an eye doctor ophthalmologist must complete four years of postgraduate study at a medical school and receive specialty training in residency in order to receive their degree. Thus, it will be your ophthalmologist doctor who will be diagnose any eye diseases and prescribe treatment.
